Mackerel Sky - English Bay Vancouver - August 26 2014
A large bank of altocumulus clouds creates a textbook mackerel/buttermilk sky over English Bay Vancouver on August 26 2014.
This unique cloud formation often precedes a change in the weather with the phrase "Mackerel in the sky, three days dry," proving true for this particular cloud display. Three days after the photo was taken the residents of the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) woke to cloudy skies and a forecast of rain.
The phrase "Mackerel Sky" comes from the cloud formation looking similar to the markings of an adult king mackerel.
